Organisational Behaviour in the 21st Century Snehaal Bhalavat October 9, 2010 To explain the challenges faced by today’s organisations, I will first express my understanding on organizational behaviour and further will highlight challenges and explain the problems in context to Indian business. Managing People Often managers think managing people is something that they often think they can do, or indeed ought to be able to do. The interesting thing is that it is neither something they have been trained to do, nor something that they have necessarily learnt or taught to do. (Kay et al., 2005, p.79). The disadvantages of workforce diversity are as follows. †¢ Increased cost of training (Local cultures and beliefs) †¢ Increase in internal conflicts due to difference in cultural backgrounds †¢ Increase in absenteeism for being non-local (For every small reason has to back to his home state or town) †¢ Increase in fear and threat †¢ Increase in employee dissatisfaction and decreasing productivity To address the challenges managers need to †¢ create religion of work to enhance productivity †¢ create unity in diversity †¢ create groups of people with similar personality, culture and ethnicity †¢ create structures providing performance based incentives and benefits for employee satisfaction The extent to which managers need a diversified workforce is mainly because they understand that homogeneous workforce is not a formula to success. No global organization can survive without diversified workforce. Contingent Workers With the growing competition and to outperform rivals cost cutting measures are taken to reduce product costs and increase productivity. Managers consider temporary workers for specific projects then to permanent ones.
